Thanks to The City of Port Adelaide Enfield, BAE Systems, and TQCSI for supporting our successful Defence Industry – Local Opportunities event held this month at The Precinct (PAFC). Pleasingly, 50% of the 180-business audience were women leaders in their field and owners and partners in family businesses who have innovated, adapted and persevered to succeed in the defence supply chain. It was great to hear their stories and benefit from their lived experience. More events are planned, so stay tuned in 2024-5! Great to hear from Mayor Claire Boan and catch up with Member for Enfield and Minister for Small and Family Business Hon. Andrea Michaels both of whom are always very supportive of all our Women in Business events!
BAE Systems Engineering Scholarships for Regional Women
Inspired by the achievements of two trail-blazing women and aligned to this year’s UN International Women’s Day theme “Count Her In: Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress”, the company has announced the inaugural Williams Hicks Engineering Scholarship for women from regional Australia.
In 1988, Flight Lieutenant Robyn Williams and Officer Cadet Deborah Hicks etched their names in history as the first Australian women to become pilots in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). Deborah was the youngest female pilot in Australia to fly solo, and Robyn was one of the RAAF’s first female engineers.
The scholarship will provide a pathway for talented women from regional areas to be supported through their engineering degree and, upon graduation, pursue a career of infinite possibilities with BAE Systems Australia.
BAE Systems will seek applications from August 2024, with the first four scholarship winners announced in January 2025 to coincide with university intakes. The program is envisaged to grow through the addition of four scholarships per year, ultimately supporting up to 16 female engineering students from regional Australia.
Know Your Audience Inside Out: Understanding your target audience is foundational. Dive deep into their demographics, preferences, pain points, and online behaviour. This insight guides your content, messaging, and digital marketing strategies, ensuring they resonate with your audience effectively.
Invest Wisely in Digital Channels: With a plethora of digital channels available, it's crucial to invest wisely based on your audience's preferences and your business goals. Whether it's Google Ads, LinkedIn advertising, SEO, or social media, allocate your resources where they'll yield the highest return on investment. You don't need to be everywhere, you need to do a great job of the platforms that you are investing in.
Consistently Provide Value and Build Trust: Offer valuable content through your website, blog, social media, and email marketing that educates, entertains, or solves problems for your audience. Consistently delivering value positions your brand as a trusted authority in your industry, fostering long-term relationships and customer loyalty.
Results Or Savings: Building your website or running your own Google Ads to save money might sound appealing but consider the quality and experience you’ll be competing against and whether you have the time and skill to produce the results you want. There’s a massive opportunity cost from not getting your online presence right.
